A belated Happy New Year to everyone, hope you all enjoyed the holidays!
We’d like to start 2013 with this update from our friend Karl Olsen at Age UK, the people behind the gorgeous Tea Tent at the festival, telling us about how they used some of the proceeds raised at last year’s event.
Most of you will have spent the festive season in the company of family, friends and other loved ones, but more than half a million older people spend Christmas Day alone. Through the lunch and support groups that they hold in the community, Age UK staff identified some particularly vulnerable people and helped ease this loneliness by delivering food hampers to them. These carefully thought-out packages included goodies such as chocolate, fudge and biscuits, but also the means to make some traditional Christmas meals, and were very gratefully received.
“The feedback we had was that the recipients appreciated the thought and felt as though people did care about them”, says Karl.
So, when you spot the Tea Tent at the 2013 festival on Saturday 8 June, pop in and treat yourself to a nice cuppa and a bun (or two) – it will taste even better knowing the good work that it’s contributing to!
